DISCIPLESHIP (Part 1 of 3)

Sunday, June 14, 2020
Jesse A. Quiroz, Lead Pastor

What is Discipleship?
The process of making disciples.

What is a Disciple?
One who follows Jesus everyday, and not themselves.

At the heart of Christianity is a Savior who simply wants us to follow Him.

MATTHEW 4:18-20 NIV
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.

MATTHEW 9:9 NIV
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

The call and invitiation to follow Him still rings true today!

LUKE 9:23 NIV
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

He not only wants you to follow Him, but He commands you to help others follow Him as well!

MATTHEW 28:19-20 NIV
Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Discipleship is more than a decision for Jesus, it’s living life with Jesus!

Your decision for Jesus gives you new life. Discipleship grows that new life.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17 NLT
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

1 PETER 1:3 NLT
It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead.

The church has got to stop leaving babies at the altar!

To grow in your faith, you need someone to teach you, show you, display for you and hold you accountaible to your commitment to your faith.

Your relationship with God is like Ikea furniture –> you can’t build it on your own!

An IMPORTANT question to ask yourself:
Who’s growing you?
Who are you growing?
