You Gotta Pull It! | The Anointing Series

Antione Ashley

Series Main Verse: Luke 4:16-19 (NKJV)
16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Key Verses Today:

Philippians 1:19 (AMPC)
19 For I am well assured and indeed know that through your prayers and a bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) this will turn out for my preservation (for the spiritual health and welfare of my own soul) and avail toward the saving work of the Gospel.

Luke 8:43-46 (NKJV)
43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.
45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”
When all denied it, Peter [o]and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, [p]and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.”

INTRO

I want to talk to you about the invisible, yet real supply of the Spirit that is ready and available for you and I today!

The anointing is something that must be

-

Without a demand being placed on the anointing, there can be no withdrawal, and many times believers settle with less because they don’t place a demand on God’s anointing.

Today we will look at 5 different examples of how believers pulled on the anointing and it effected change in their life.

1 They IT - Luke 6:17-19

17 And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, 18 as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.

The crowd came for three reasons:
To Hear Jesus
To Be Healed by Jesus
To be Delivered from Demonic Power

Pulling the anointing involves you seeking Jesus for a particular need.
—#AnointingSeries

Pulling on the ANointing is coming to Jesus in an

manner
Many times we miss what God can do for us, because we do passively, without having a need

2 They - Matthew 20:30-31

30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”
31 Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”

Their faith needed an action behind it to pull Jesus to them; therefore, crying out pulled on the anointing in Jesus to get him to stop and meet their need.

3 They Him- Luke 8:45

45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”
When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.”

Jesus asked the question, “Who touched me?”
Peter answered by saying everyone is thronging and pressing on him.
But Jesus didn’t ask who was thronging on him, he asked who touched him.

Throng: to crowd around, almost to choke out or suffocate one

“Thronging ≠ Touching Jesus” —Antione Ashley

4 They Him - Matthew 14:34-36

34 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick, 36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

It is the recognition of WHO Jesus is and WHAT Jesus can do that gives us grip on the anointing.
- likewise, it is in the recongnition of the anointing on a person or within a place that works the same.

Some of the reasons

and live on stale oil is because no one is recognizing the anointing

You recognizethe anointing by testimony

  • When people received a miracle, or heard of Jesus being a healer, they told everyone when they heard he was near!

  • The more we testify about Jesus, the more the anointing can flow.

5 They BESOUGHT Him - Matthew 14:36
The anointing flows best when there’s a reputation of God’s power among a people.

5 They Him - Matthew 14:36

36 and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

  • Besought (begged)
    • To ask urgently and fervently to do something
    • Can even mean to beg
    • To ask persistently
