Any time we try to lead others to accomplish something for God’s glory, we will undoubtedly be opposed. Nehemiah’s example helps us understand what it means to rise above criticism when the enemy attacks.

Discussion Questions
Getting Started
1) Who is your worst critic? Is there someone in your life that seems to always point out your errors without ever giving you any helpful suggestions or solutions to what you are dealing with in your life? How have you decided to deal with this person?

2) The religious leaders (critics) were determined to trap Jesus in His own words and actions (Matthew 22:15-22; 26:3-4; Mark 12:13-17; Luke 20:19; John 8:6; 11:45-53). How did Jesus respond to them? Did Jesus allow their attacks to stop Him from accomplishing God’s purpose?
3) The blowing of the trumpet (shofar) was common in Israel and will be a sign of the Lord’s return (1 Cor 15:52; Rev 11:15-18; 1 Thess 4:13-18; Mt 24:31; Isaiah 27:13; Joel 2:1; Ezekiel 33:1-6; Psalm 81:3; Joshua 6:20; Ex 19:16; Lev 25:9; 1 Kings 1:39; Judges 7:22). Are you listening for the trumpet of God? Are you ready for Jesus’ return?
4) If you are discouraged and weary, focus on these two passages (2 Corinthians 4:8-12; Galatians 6:9-10).
Applying the Word to Life
5) Do you genuinely believe that God is fighting for you? How can you show God this week that you trust His sovereignty over a situation you are in?
6) How much do you have your weapon (Bible) by your side during the day? If you are discouraged, read God’s Word out loud many times a day. Plan to do it every hour.
