1 Peter 4:10-11

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Romans 12:6-10

 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

1 Cor. 12:4-7

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

  1. What is the purpose of the ministry gifts God gives His people? What should we expect to observe when we use our gifts the way this passage directs?
  2. In your own words, how does Peter say we should put our gifts into practice? Does this come naturally to you or not?

Read Romans 12:6-10

  1. Based on this passage, what would you suggest as a guiding principle for how people ought to use their gifts?
  2. Verses 9 and 10 give five distinct commands. What are they? Which of them are most difficult for you to obey? Which ones come more naturally?
  3. How do imagine these commands are related to the discussion of spiritual gifts that that preceded them in this passage?
