Colossians 3:1-4
Position: Vs 1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
We all struggle with understanding our identity in Christ. We all struggle with sin, and try to manage it through will power, rituals and even superstitions. Take some time this week to quiet yourself. As you do, ask Jesus in prayer to show you and help you see what you are most preoccupied with. What do you spend most of your time seeking and searching for? Ask Jesus to help you to regularly set aside time each day to reflect, meditate and immerse yourself in prayer, Scripture and fellowship with other Believers to the end that you would experience His grace to be seeking those things that are already true of your position and secure identity in Christ. This is where we will find abundant life. He will answer that prayer.
Perception: Vs 2-3 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
We all get distracted. We all have hearts that wander. We are all tempted to look horizontally to the things of this earth for security, significance and acceptance. We all tend to look horizontally for the rescue from our deep struggle with idolatry and sinful passions. Who and what do I set my mind on to fill the empty places of my heart that constantly thirst for significance, security and acceptance? How does my perception of life and eternity affect how I see myself and others? What does it mean that “you have died?” What does it mean that “your life is hidden in Christ?”
Purpose: Vs 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
We are all living for something or someone and our default setting is to habitually look around us for that “life.” But according to Scripture, Jesus is to be the sum of all our longings. He is to be the One I look to who alone can fill the deepest longings of my heart. Remember that we are always hungering for significance, true security and unconditional acceptance. Jesus is the only One of True Value who has already given me the grace to live for Him and not myself. If you are a true Believer He has already given you the grace necessary to conquer our sinful passions and desires that war daily against our souls! Is Christ your “life?” This is a daily commitment and prayer.
