“Good Enough” Easter Sunday

PRINT GUIDE HERE
Week 7 HPC @ Home Guide
Scripture: John 20:1-18
Takeaway: A good enough faith is one that moves through the chronic nature of being incurably human with an eye for resurrection moments that assure us that this good enough life is worthy of our amazement.

Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.

• One thing you need.

• How can the group help?

Bible Discussion: Read John 20:1-18
• Put yourself in Mary’s shoes & imagine what she must be feeling. How would you have responded in a similar situation?

• The disciples immediately run back to where they were staying, but Mary lingers there. Why do you think she staid?

• Is there any significance to Mary being the one that Jesus first reveals his resurrection to? (Think about their interactions previously)

• What makes Mary recognize Jesus?

Application:
Mary had such a close relationship with Jesus, that when he called her by name, she instantly knew it was him…and new that everything would be ok. What a reveal?!

Jesus’s appearance to Mary as a gardener seems like a mistake, like she wasn’t looking close enough; but is it? Gardeners are known for burying things in the ground, for tending to them through sometimes very harsh elements, and for awaiting the new life that they bring forward. In this context, it makes sense that Jesus would appear as a gardener.

The resurrection is shocking & unpredictable. Just as a gardener plants his seeds each year hoping that in the spring something miraculous will break through the earth, we must trust that God can bring life out of death. That he did just that.

• Where have you seen God bring forth life out of darkness & suffering?

• How do those moments give you hope for what’s to come?

Challenge: There is a beauty to celebrating Easter in the spring. The world is beginning to come to life again after the darkness & cold of winter. Take a walk outside this week & meditate on the glimpses of the joy of Easter that we get each day this time of year.
