John 4:27-42

4:28-30 | This woman’s actions proved her conversion: as soon as she believed, she hurried back to the city to tell everyone she met about meeting Jesus. She could not wait to spread the good news.

4:34 | The purpose of Jesus’ life was to do the will of God, who sent Him. It was His food and joy.

4:35-39 | This scene occurs in the winter, not long after crops were planted. Thus, the crops were not white (ready for harvesting) but green. Yet Jesus saw a crop that was ready for harvest: the Samaritans. Perhaps as He spoke, Jesus was gazing at the Samaritans as they exited the city to come see Him. Today, believers need to lift up their eyes and look at the fields - people near them are ready to be saved (Matt. 9:37; Luke 10:2).

4:40-42 | At the Samaritans’ urging, Jesus stayed with them an extra two days despite His busy schedule. Winning others to Christ sometimes requires adjusting one’s schedule to make time for one’s own “Samaritans.”
