Engage
Wolfgang taught out of Acts 16 which leads us to spend our time processing our role in being part of the team. Read 1st Corinthians 12:14-20 for a picture of God’s ideal team.
Paul speaks often about unity in the church, and, like this passage highlighted, also how important differences are within a church. We are better when our individual gifts and talents can be combined into something greater than the sum of its parts.
Do you find yourself aspiring to be one ‘part of the body’ rather than other?
Do you identify with feeling like an “unimportant” foot, or do you see yourself as a “superstar” head of hair in the church (just think, being a giant eyeball sure sounds painful, right)? Have you ever served in a role that has felt like a pinky toe? Looking back now, reflect on how that role, and every role on God’s team is vital.
Take a look at 1st Peter 4:10. When have you seen two very different people work together for something greater?
Apply
Part of letting the Holy Spirit work in you is to build an awareness of the spiritual gifts you possess that can be used for the benefit of your community, both in the church building and outside of it. Where do you see yourself putting in a little effort but seeing great results from it? Is there an area that comes easier for you or intrigues you more?
If you’re not currently on a Northshore team, what spot on the team could you try? (We have a great variety of options available within Northshore!)
If you are on a Northshore team, will you share about that experience?
And then consider, who can you invite to be a part of it with you? Will you name them and then reach out? Sometimes a simple invitation is all it takes.
Prayer
God, teach us to be grateful for the gifts you have given us. To discover those gifts and passions, and lead us to find ways to help bring healing to our broken world through them. Remind us our gifts all look different, and that that is by design and not a mistake. Teach us to be humble, aware of where we are not as strong, and reach out to others with strengths that are different than ours in this beautiful community of faith called your Church. Amen.
