Masterclass Part 4 - Miracles

Very truly I tell you, whoever

in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. —Jn 14:12

Why did Jesus want his Church to do the same works he did?

1. Because the works the coming of the Kingdom.

But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. —Lk 11:20

But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
—Matt 12:28

2. Because miracles the word.

a) At the wedding in Cana.

What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. —Jn 2:11

b) Woman of Samaria

Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
—John 4:29

c) Nicodemus

‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.’
—John 3:2

d) Those who came to mourn with Mary the sister of Lazarus.

Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. —Jn 11:45

e) Nathaniel

45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’
46 ‘Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?’ Nathanael asked. ‘Come and see,’ said Philip.
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, ‘Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.’
48 ‘How do you know me?’ Nathanael asked.Jesus answered, ‘I saw you while you were still under the fig-tree before Philip called you.’
49 Then Nathanael declared, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.’
50 Jesus said, ‘You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig-tree. You will see greater things than that.’ 51 He then added, ‘Very truly I tell you, you will see “heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on” the Son of Man.’ —John 1:45-50

3) Miracles Jesus.

Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
—Acts 2:22

“People of Israel, listen! God publicly

Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know. —Acts 2:22 NLT

  • We can always pray for miracles; the early Church did.
Acts 4:30 “let miracles be done in the name of your holy child Jesus.”

‘I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish – the very works that I am doing – testify that the Father has sent me.’ —John 5:36, NIV

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. —Matthew 5:16

How does Jesus teach us to do miracles?

a. By the

of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was anointed to heal.

…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. —Acts 10:38

b. The power flows from

.

Jesus gave them this answer: ‘Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. —John 5:19

c. Jesus taught his disciples that they must have

to operate in miracles.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” —Matthew 17:19-21

d. By laying on of

on the sick. Point of contact.

And these signs will follow those who believe…. they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” —Mark 16:17

e. By

the sick with oil.

12 They went out and preached that people should repent. 13 They drove out many demons and anointed with oil many people who were ill and healed them. —Mark 6:12

f. By the spoken

.

Then Jesus said to the centurion, ‘Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.’ And his servant was healed at that moment. —Matthew 8:13
