DAY 3
A WOMAN’S TOUCH
by Yolanda Darville
“He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him.” —Genesis 2:20 NLT
Above his head, tropical birds soared in the clear blue sky. Below his feet he felt the soil, fertile and strong. A gaze to his left made him smile as he caught a glimpse of the breathtaking azure waters. To his right, he could see a variety of animals scampering along.
He breathed in the scent of creation and thought, “What a wonderful world.”
And yet, deep within he sensed that this incredible world was not quite complete.
It would not be until later, when the Lord had pulled the woman from his side and presented her in all her splendor would Adam realize what had been missing — a woman’s touch.
God created Adam with a purpose in mind. The first man was ordained and equipped by God to manage the earth.
But God knew that despite Adam’s capabilities, it was not good for him to be alone. Adam needed a companion to share in his task and enjoy the grandeur of God’s creation.
The first woman was a solution to a problem that Adam didn’t even know that he had. As Eve stepped into his life, she brought companionship, gentleness, warmth, peace, and an indescribable softness.
And since that first day in the garden when man and woman became one flesh, there has never been anything that can compare to a woman’s touch.
A wife is the soft place for her husband after a hard day. She is the voice of reason when her husband is faced with confusing decisions. She brings a unique perspective to every situation, and she makes a simple house a welcoming home.
In a marriage, a woman partners with a man to take on the task that God has given. Only together can they -
“Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it.” —Genesis 1:28
Just as God created the man to represent His image on the earth, He created the woman. For God knew that Adam needed a suitable helper. And God knew that the world needed a woman’s touch.
Prayer
Father, thank you for creating us both in Your image and making us one through the holy covenant of marriage. Help us to keep You at the center of our marriage. Today, and every day, show us how to respect our unique roles in this marriage. We realize that it is only together that we can truly reflect Your glory. Amen.
Reflection:
Separately, take a few minutes to journal about how the Bible outlines the wife’s role in a marriage and the uniqueness that the wife brings to your marriage.
Come back together, compare your notes and discuss.
Come back tomorrow for Day 4
