The Bread of Life is a Person
At this point in Jesus’ ministry here in the Gospel of John, everywhere Jesus went large
followed Him to hear His great teachings and to hopefully witness or even experience firsthand one of Jesus’ unbelievable miracles. In John 6 Jesus is teaching and performing miracles in the towns and villages around the Sea of Galilee. One of the more memorable miracles that Jesus performed took place here in John 6 where Jesus feeds
men, in addition to even more women and children with 5 barley loaves of bread and just 2 fish. They even had leftovers after feeding all the people.
The Bread of Life is Spiritual Food
Not only was Jesus telling them that He was the one and only eternal God, but Jesus wanted them to understand that the
that He brings to them is spiritual food. It is amazing to me that the people say to Jesus that if He performs another miracle, they will believe in Him. Yet, the day before Jesus just performed a huge miracle of feeding
of people with a few pieces of bread and fish. Surely that was enough of a miracle for them to believe in Him.
1 John 2:15-17
“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
