Luke 2:11-14 (New Living Translation)
11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”

1. Read Luke 2:11-14. What “good news” did the angel give the shepherds? What titles did the angel give Jesus (verse 11) and what do they communicate about purpose? Why did the angel not call Jesus by his name and what does this teach us about calling and purpose?
2. What roles of purpose have you been called to by God in your family, place of employment, with friends etc.? Have you ever overstepped or undervalued God’s calling in any of these roles and, if so, what happened?
3. What sign did the angel tell the shepherds they could recognize Jesus by (verse 12)? The Bible teaches that God gives signs to his children in every generation. What signs have you experienced that demonstrate that God is real and working in your life?
4. The armies of heaven interrupted the angel and praised God. Thus far during the Christmas season, have you welcomed and valued interruptions or have you viewed them as an unwelcome disruption? Why can it be difficult to view interruptions as beneficial?
5. How does having a total sense of peace correlate with God’s glory? Conversely, how does losing our sense of peace mean that we have lost sight of God’s glory? Give examples of why God is glorious.
6. What else stood out to you in the sermon that you have questions about in this passage of Scripture?
