Luke 4:16-21 Sermon notes part 6
July 9, 2023

Jesus ends verse 18 with this phrase, “He has appointed Me to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

But what does this mean?

This is an Old Testment concept that is explained in great detail in Exodus 23:10-11, Levititus 25, and Deuteronomy 15:1-8. This year of the LORD occurred every 7th year. After the Day of Atonement the horn would sound the beginning of the “year of the LORD.”

  1. This was a celebrated year.
  2. This was a joyful year.
    a. All debts were forgiven.
    b. All slaves were set free.
    c. All fields left fallow or unplowed.
  3. This was a testing year.
  4. This was a training year. Deut. 31:9-13

Ok, but what does this have to do with me?

  1. We should celebrate our opportunities to worship Jesus. Why?
  2. He has erased our debt, a debt we could not pay.
  3. Every day is a time of testing for us.
    a. Tithing.
    b. Thankfulness.
    c. Time. Our heart’s attention
  4. The Bible needs to be the most important book in our lives.

We have a lot to consider, and decisions to make. So what will you do today.
