Week 5: Daniel Chapter 5

Feb 6-12

Overview: Throughout Daniel, God reveals Himself to the “enemy” kings. Each is provided with an opportunity to acknowledge God’s power and authority. King Balthazar did not remember or recognize God’s power from his father’s reign, King Nebuchadnezzar. However, King Balthazar’s wife, the queen, remembered Daniel and all the Lord had done through Daniel when they needed help. King Balthazar also despised the holy things that had been taken from the Lord‘s temple by using the gold and silver goblets as part of a banquet he held for his nobles, wives and concubines. God will not be mocked (Galatians 6:7) and He opposes the proud (James 4:6). God used the appearance of a hand writing a message on a wall to try and get king Balthazar’s attention. The message and hand terrified King Balthazar. Upon hearing the commotion, the queen boldly stepped forward and reminded the king about Daniel and the things he did. Daniel revealed God’s message of judgment to King Balthazar (which was fulfilled that very evening).
