Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. —Colossians 2:6–10

- Read Colossians 2:6-10. What does Paul say in verse 6 that had already happened in the Colossians’ lives? (1 Cor. 11:2; 15:1–5; Phil. 4:9; 1 Thess. 4:1; 2 Thess. 3:6)
- How did you “receive” the teachings of Jesus throughout your life? Who? What? Where?
- What are some ways (ideas, teachings, values, worldviews) that Christians can be led astray today?
- Discuss how being rooted like a tree in the earth is how we should be walking(living) in Christ. (Jeremiah 17:8; Psalm 1; John 15:1-4)
- Discuss how being built up–solidly built like a house or temple– describes how we should be walking(living) in Christ. (Ephesians 2:19-21)
- Discuss how being established and secure like a legal document describes us walking(living) in Christ. (Rom 15:8; 1 Cor 1:8; 1 Cor 1:6; 2 Cor 1:21)
- Discuss how abounding in thanksgiving is a picture of us walking(living) in Christ.
