Week 1 – A Cautious Shout Out to Righteous Anger and Offense
Series Key Truth – Replacing offense, anger and vengeance with patience,
forgiveness and love will free us and radically change the current climate in the
world.
Series Key Verse - Proverbs 19:11 - A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to
one’s glory to overlook an offense.
Mark 3:5
He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn
hearts…
John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will
not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.
Romans 1:18
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness
and wickedness of men, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
Romans 5:9
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be
saved from God’s wrath through him!
Anger and God
Exodus 34:6-7
"…The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger,
abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and
forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.
Exodus 34:7
Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished…
Anger and Justice
Key Truth – God is best equipped to deal with righteous anger because He’s
righteous! (And BTW we’re NOT)
Ephesians 4:26-27
…Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the
devil a foothold.
Ephesians 4:31-32
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with
every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving
each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Colossians 3:8
But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage,
malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
1 Timothy 2:8
I want men everywhere
James 1:19-20
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow
to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the
righteous life that God desires.
Matthew 5:22
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject
to judgment.
Romans 5:6-11
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for
the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a
good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his
own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
