1. Read Matthew 2:1-6

2. The religious leaders in Jerusalem knew the Scriptures concerning the coming of the Messiah, yet completely failed to discover Him personally when He was born in Bethlehem. How do people know the Scriptures so well completely miss Jesus today?

3. I believe the religious leaders loved being shepherds of the people more than loving the Good Shepherd. They enjoyed the things of God more than God Himself. Share of a time you caught yourself being a consumer of Christian things rather than loving Jesus first. What is God showing you about keeping Him your first love today?

4. It is not an uncommon temptation to substitute knowledge for action. How did the religious leaders do this in Matthew 2? How did Adam and Eve do this in the garden in Genesis 3? How have you been tempted to do this? Share an area God is challenging you to get beyond knowing what you should do theoretically and begin living it out practically.
