Meeting People as They Are (Oct. 13)
Read: John 3:1-21
Different people will struggle with different aspects of the Christian faith. Effective evangelism requires us to understand their needs, and point them to Jesus as the answer.
Have you ever felt like Nicodemus? Not understanding what God is teaching you. How can you possibly share the love of God if you don’t fully understand? Easy - take your eyes off Nicodemus and put them on Jesus.
Jesus met Nicodemus where he was in that moment. Jesus didn’t try to explain it all - just what he needed in that moment.
That should be our goal, too. Meet each person where they are. Show them God’s love with our actions. I’ve heard it said, “Actions speak louder than words”, and I think we can all agree to some degree.
I met a woman through my job. I didn’t know her spiritual state, but when we talked, I shared how God was meeting me or had met me in similar situations. It was clear within several conversations that she knew who God was but didn’t know Him personally. I just kept sharing, in casual conversation, how God had met me and helped me. After nearly three years, this woman placed her faith in Christ. After she did, she told me I was the first person to ever talk about Jesus outside of church, and talk about him as if he was my friend. She told me that just being m, is what showed her Jesus’ love for her.
So when you meet people or engage with friends- Be like Jesus and meet them where they are at. God will do the rest
Action Step: Watch this 3-minute music video, the song Craig by Walker Hayes: https://youtu.be/5pLNTewIfrg
After watching the video take a moment to reflect on how you can be like Jesus and meet people where they are at in your daily life.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for meeting me where I am and pulling me into relationship with you. Help me to identify the needs of others, and help meet them where they are, that they might come to know you.
