TRUST GOD

Text: Matthew 6:25-34

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof
.

1. Worry

  • v. 25 – The issue with worry is the of the future.
  • Jesus asks, “Is not life more than what you worry about?”
  • Isn’t it true that when we worry we make that thing that we are worrying about bigger than or as big as life itself? But it is not.
  • Worry is later, but we make it now. Worry deals with an issue, but we make it as big as life.

  • vs. 26- If God takes care of the birds, He will take care of you.

  • v. 27 – Can any of you by add value to your life, can you make it safe, make it better, or solve issues?
  • v. 30 – Now Jesus asks that question that gets to the heart of the matter: “Will He not much more clothe you….?

  • Today, can we trust God with our

_ (fill in the blank), the thing we worry about?

2. Trust

  • vs. 32 – For your Heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
  • This strikes at the heart of worry. God knows need.

James MacDonald - Trust is the antidote to anxiety; it’s the resolution of worry and the destruction of fear. Trust is the act of my will to give my burdens to God.

  • When we sense worry, we need to move in a different direction by choosing to be concerned about God’s kingdom.
  • But seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things WILL be added unto you. (v. 33)
  • Jesus in essence says, “You get concerned about my Kingdom, and I will take care of yours.”

3. Peace (John 14:27; Phil 4:6-7)

  • The world’s peace is based on . When things are good, I have the world’s peace.
  • Jesus’ peace is not the kind of peace you have because you have nothing to worry about. It is the peace you have because you know and trust that He your needs.

Bottom line: I can trust God today with tomorrow’s concerns.

Application:

1)

your trust in God daily.

2)

your worry.

3) When you worry about tomorrow, look for a way to

in God’s kingdom today.
