Sermon Title: Working for Peace and Prosperity
Scripture: Jeremiah 29:4-7

I. Discerning our calling

Vocatio” = calling. Your vocation is your calling in life.

Your calling is what God made you to do.

The word vocatio can also be translated voice. In other words, Your vocation is your voice.

“Let your life speak.” *George Fox *

We usually ask kids, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Maybe a better question is, “Who are you? What gifts, talents and passions do you think God gave you to use for your life?”

“We need to learn to embrace our potential and our limitations. Because both of them are signposts, pointing us forward into God’s calling on our life.” (Parker J. Palmer, Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation)

II. Unearthing our calling
   1. What do you love?
   2. What are you good at?
   3. What is the need?
   4. What makes the world a better place?
   5. Where is the door of opportunity?
   6. What is God blessing?
   7. What do others tell you?
   8. What is the Spirit telling you?

Additional Notes:

Jeremiah 29:4-7
4 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
