Icebreaker - What do you miss about being a child?
Read 9:33-37. Being a servant is a sign of greatness within God’s Kingdom. Biblical servanthood includes: love of other above yourself, active sacrifice for the benefit of others, embracing a purpose higher than yourself, and the rejection of temporary and circumstantial wisdom. With these combined attributes in mind, how would you describe your recent journey of servanthood?
Read 9:38-41. Jesus’ disciples were casting judgment against a man, “because he wasn’t following us.” In what ways have you felt like an outsider due to how other Christians have treated you?
Read 9:42-50. These verses contain hyperbole. However, that doesn’t lessen the severity of Jesus’ warnings.
a. What sins committed by a person’s hands are tempting within our culture (ex: stealing, murder, violence, greed, gluttony, etc)? Which have been tempting to you?
b. What sins committed by a person’s feet are tempting within your community (ex: wondering away from responsibility at home or work, running toward sinful activities alone or with others, etc)?
c. What sins committed by a person’s eyes are tempting within your life (ex: covetousness, lust, envy, etc.)?
Read 10:1-12. What do you think would change in a generation if people took marriage as seriously as Jesus taught?
a. How have broken marriages impacted you or those you know well?
b.Why is compassion toward those who have suffered from a broken marriage vital?
Read 10:13-16. What opportunities do you have to bring your children and other children to Jesus?
