At Trailhead, we believe that church is not just about growing in God’s Word but doing so in community. We have designed this study guide to help you follow along with Sunday’s message. Study the scriptures, take notes, and then reinforce what you learned by answering a few questions. Ask others to join you in discussion, whether it be with your family or online with your Trailhead study group. Let’s have church!

John 14:16-18 (NIV)
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:26 (NIV)
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Mark 16:15-20 (NIV)
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

John 14:12 (NIV)
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Discussion Questions
Pastor Josh said that the Kingdom of God is not just in Word but in power. What does this mean to you? Why is it important to exercise Spirit-filled power while also being knowledgable of God’s Word?
Think about the 9 Gifts of the Spirit listed above and their importance. Why do you think some Christians choose to not talk about these? Or why do you feel they sometimes get ignored?
Think about the Greek word for baptism as it applies to the Holy Spirit. The word “baptizo” refers to being submerged, immersed, soaked, or overwhelmed. Thinking about this and Pastor Josh’s “pickling” analogy, what does it mean to you to be “Baptized” in the Holy Spirit? Why is it important for Christians to be baptized in this way?
