"The Kingdom Of God" Devotional
Prophets, Priests, and Kings Part 1
Part of Devotionals
January 6, 2022

Throughout the Bible, we see that most of Jesus’ teaching surrounds the Kingdom of God, so I think it’s safe to say it’s important. Have you ever wondered why He was so intentional in this?

There is a vast difference between how Jesus rules and how the kingdom of this world rules, and He wants us to fully understand who He is and what He has called us to do. In this new message series, Prophets, Priests, & Kings, we’re going to unpack what Scripture tells us about the Kingdom of God and our role here in His Kingdom on earth.

From the very beginning, man was created to rule and reign with Christ. We are to be stewards in the areas where He has placed us. In a world that is constantly striving for more money, more relationships, more influence, and more things, God is simply calling us to faithfully steward what we already have. It is then that He can give us more. (Genesis 1:26-28)

One of the most important things He asks us to steward is our call to be Prophets. People often struggle with this word. Much of that has to do with our history. Maybe you don’t understand the prophetic. Maybe it seems weird. Maybe you just don’t think it applies to you. But according to Scripture, it applies to everyone.

Journal: What is your experience with the prophetic?

We are all called to carry His Word to the world. That means each one of us is called to be a Prophet. What happens when we don’t feel qualified? What if the storms of life threaten to shake us every time they come?

Where we put our trust is the key. When we put our trust in the unshakable Kingdom of God and not in what is around us, the testing that comes our way cannot shake our faith. Building our lives on God’s Word gives us the confidence we need to face the storms, whatever they may be, and share with others what He’s done for us. (Hebrews 12:28-29, 1 Peter 2:9)

Did you know that you can have a relationship with God without having a true knowledge of who He is? It happens every day. Culture is saturated with the message of Jesus. It’s on the television, in stores, and even at theme parks. We don’t have to look very far to find His name either spoken, written, or sung. But do we really know Him?

We think we know Him because we do all of the religious things. We go to church, worship His name, and even talk to Him now and then. But it’s not enough to sit in church and listen to the pastor speak and know what he tells us about Jesus. We have to get to know Him ourselves by reading His Word; and that means all of it, not just the parts we like or agree with. Jesus and Scripture are eternally linked. He is the very foundation of the Kingdom. (John 1:1-5)

KNOWLEDGE of Jesus + RELATIONSHIP with Jesus = SECURITY

It’s a package deal, and a good one too.

So as we head into the new year and all of the unknown, let’s determine to make it a priority to get to know God, draw closer to Him, and confidently step into our calling as Prophets by studying His Word and declaring His promises over our lives and the lives of others. If we want to thrive instead of just survive, we have to become students of God’s Word.

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, holy is Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, in me as it is in heaven. My life is out of my hands, Lord, I humbly place it in Yours. May I always look to Your Kingdom instead of the kingdom of the world, grow in a knowledge of You that can only be found in Your Word, and confidently pursue Your greater plans and purpose in my life each day. Amen
