BIG IDEA: Justice is God’s idea and is deeply rooted throughout the storyline of the Bible leading straight to Jesus.

I. Biblical Justice is based on the fact that all people are

before God.

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” —Genesis 12:2-3

II. God’s

was created to do righteousness and justice.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. —Proverbs 31:8

This is what the Lord says: Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors. Quit your evil deeds! Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows. Stop murdering the innocent! —Jeremiah 22:3

He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly. The Lord protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked. —Psalm 146:7-9

III. At times, we are all

of injustice.

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags —Isaiah 64:6

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! —Romans 7:24-25

But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. —Romans 3:21-22

IV. Faith in Jesus is shown when we

justice to others.

Love your neighbor as yourself. —Mark 12:31

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. —Mark 6:8
