Best Practice Series:  *In preparation for Palm Sunday through Easter, we will cover specific teachings from Jesus on fasting, prayer, accountability, Scripture, and generosity so that we can properly reflect on the message of the resurrection.  *

The practice of accountability is the voluntary act of being accountable and answerable for my actions.

1. We need to

making excuses
Luke 19:1-4 / ESV, “He entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3 And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.”

Galatians 6:5 / NLT, “For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”

2. We need to

a command to follow
Luke 19:5-6 / ESV, “And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully.”

Psalm 17:4 / NLT, “I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people.”

Psalm 119:60 / NLT, “I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.”

3. We need to

on compassion, not complaining
Luke 19:7 / ESV, “And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

Philippians 2:14 / ESV, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing…”

4. We need to

with
Luke 19:8 / ESV, “And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”

Luke 3:8 / CSB, “Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance. And don’t start saying to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.”

5. We need to

God’s rescue and approval
Luke 19:9-10 / ESV, “And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
