HE IS RISEN

1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.
2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
3  Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4  And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.
5  Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?
6  He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,
7  saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ” —Luke 24:1 - 7

GRAVES TO GARDENS

To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord,
that He may be glorified. —Isaiah 61:3

1. The resurrection turns the grave of ashes into a garden of beauty.

… To give them beauty for ashes… —Isaiah 61:3

3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4  to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,
7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, —1 Peter 1:3 - 7

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. —Romans 15:13

3  And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
4  and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. —Romans 5:3 - 5

Let us hold fast the confession of our  hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. —Hebrews 10:23

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. —Jeremiah 29:11

2. The resurrection turns the grave of sadness into a garden of joy.

… the oil of joy for mourning… —Isaiah 61:3

8  So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
9  And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. —Matthew 28:8 - 9

24  Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
25  The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
26  And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”
27  Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
28  And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” —John 20:24 - 29

18  “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19  To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” —Luke 4:18 - 19

3. The resurrection turns the grave of despair into a garden of overcoming praise

…the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness… —Isaiah 61:3

1  Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.
4  And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
5  But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
6  He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. —Matthew 28:1 - 6

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. —Romans 8:11

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. —Philippians 1:6

19  and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
20  which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
21  far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
22  And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church. —Ephesians 1:19 - 22

4. The resurrection turns the grave of the old you into the garden of new life.

… that they may be called trees of righteousness… —Isaiah 61:3

18  Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.
19  Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. —Isaiah 43:18 - 19

15  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, —Romans 8:15 - 16

11  But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb.
12  And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13  Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”
14  Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.
15  Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16  Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher). —John 20:11 - 16

5. The resurrection turns the grave of death into a garden of victory.

55  “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
56  The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
57  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. —1 Corinthians 1:55 - 57

For He made Him who knew no sin to be  sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. —2 Corinthians 5:21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new. —2 Corinthians 5:17
