1. Who in your group is travelling the farthest during the holidays?
   

2. Read Esther 2:20-3:1. Think about a time when you have been overlooked. What was the situation? For a promotion? Left out of the group? How did you deal with the rejection?
   

3. Read Esther 3:2-5. What do you think of Mordecai’s decision not to bow? What are some situations in our lives where we have a choice to bow or not to bow?
   

4. Read Esther 3:6-15. What is your reaction to this part of the story?
   

5. What are some similar situations today or in history of people being mistreated?
   

6. Read Esther 4:1-3. How does mourning in the Persian and Jewish culture look different from our culture? What can we learn from them?
   

7. Read Esther 4:4-11. How would you describe Mordecai in his response to this situation?
   

8. Read Esther 4:12-17. Esther was caught between a rock and a hard place. How do you handle life situations when the choices are so hard? What can you learn from the Esther story when you are faced with difficult dilemmas?
