Luke 4:16-21 Sermon Notes part 2
June 9, 2023

Our focus this morning is healing the brokenhearted.

Remember the center of our passage is verse 21, where Jesus proclaims the fulfillment of the prophecies found in verse 18. Here, He is saying I AM God, the One you have been waiting for, who will heal the brokenhearted.

But how is this possible? Let’s find out.

  1. Brokenhearted is defined as being overwhelmed by grief or disappointment. This is usually connected with someone or something we cherish deeply, that is lost to us.
  2. This is a universal experience that cares not who you are, or what you have become.
  3. The results of this event, usually, lives us feeling completely broken into pieces.
  4. The word “heal” means to make complete again, or to put the peices back together. This is exactly what Jesus states His mission is.

So who does Jesus acheive this healing?
1. By bringing us through it.
2. By pointing us backwards after it is over.
3. By revealing His true desire for us.

So why does this type of healing not take place?
1. We don’t allow Jesus to heal us.
2. We don’t pray asking why.
3. We don’t stand upon His provisions and promises.
4. We don’t see our brokeness through His eyes
5. We don’t understand what can come from this.

Jesus offer each one of us complete healing if we will simply receive it.
