GOD’S PROMISES FOR STEWARDING THE GOSPEL

Text: Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

1. The Promise Of His Power (Acts 1:8)

  • A witness is someone who testifies about what he knows. As witnesses, we testify about who we know, i.e. the penalty and price of sin and the payment for and present of salvation.
  • We are witnesses, but we are not alone. We have been promised the

    and the of the Spirit.

  • As believers, we are permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our power. He is the one who enables us to do what Jesus commanded.

  • The question: If the power source is in me, then how do I flip the switch? Yield to the Spirit. to obey.
  • When we make the choice to obey, the Holy Spirit gives us all the power we need to witness faithfully.

2. The Promise Of Success

  • When we look to the church in the first century we see a church that had great success. Their example of success should encourage us. If they could do it, we can do it. (cf. Heb. 12:1)

    1) They practiced Christ’s

    (Acts 2:44-47; 6:1-7; 12:5; Jn 13:35)

    2) They presented Christ

    • They reflected His presence. (cf. Acts 4:13, 5:41) They were being salt and light to their geo.

    3) They

    the gospel (Acts 5:42)

    • Study the Book of Acts and you will find the gospel being shared in a variety of settings – among the masses, from house to house, and one on one. The gospel was proclaimed and people were saved – thousands at a time, one at a time.

    • What’s the point as we look to their example? They did it. We can too.

    • Success is in our obedience. God will take care of saving souls, advancing His church, and changing people’s lives.

3. The Promise Of Reward (2 Cor. 5:10, 1 Thess. 2:19)

Bottom line: We can steward the gospel because we have His promises of His power, of success, and of reward.
