EXAMPLES OF DEPRESSION IN THE BIBLE
1. David-Psalm 6:5-7(NIV) 5Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave? 6I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
2. Jonah-Jonah 4:9(NIV) But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” “It is,” he said. “And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.”
3. Heman Son of Korah-Psalm 88:5-6(NIV) 5I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. 6You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths.
4. Job-Job 3:11(NIV) “Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?
5. Jeremiah-Jeremiah 2:14-15(NIV) 14Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth? Why then has he become plunder? 15Lions have roared; they have growled at him. They have laid waste his land; his towns are burned and deserted.

WHAT IS DEPRESSION?
1. I haven’t done a single thing today, yet I am incredibly exhausted and depleted.
2. Like a black raincloud following me around constantly.
3. The inability to express to anyone how I feel.
4. Like someone stole everything that makes you, you.
5. Like you don’t want to talk to anyone, but you’re lonely.

James 5:17(CEB) Elijah was a person just like us. When he earnestly prayed that it wouldn’t rain, no rain fell for three and a half years.

I Kings 19:1-4(NKJV) 1And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. 2Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” 3And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”

CASE STUDY
1. Depression can follow

.
2. What seems like a dramatic fall can .
3. Before God dealt with Elijah’s depression, .

I Kings 19:5-7(NKJV) 5Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.” 6Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. 7And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.”

Overcoming depression is a process of healing that starts with being honest where you are
and trusting God to send you where you need to go.
