The Exposed Heart

Matthew 23.25-28 NLT
““What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too. “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity. Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

It’s not enough to know all the right things to do. It is about a real relationship with God.

Forgetting our first love is easy when our head and heart are disconnected and through that disconnection the inside curdles and begins to smell.

We can’t walk in just brain or just emotions

We can’t have faith without both emotion and intellectual decision making.

Hebrews 11.1 NIV
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

When God exposes where we are in Him and where we need to grow, our response needs to be submission and surrender.

A heart that is exposed is a heart that can be healed.

A heart surrendered to God is a heart God takes responsibility for.

Submitting to Jesus
takes time
takes humility
takes stick-to-it-iveness (tenacity)

Psalms 139.23-24 NLT
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
