DAY 4
AT LAST
by Sheree Flowers
“At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’because she was taken from ‘man.’” —Genesis 2:23 NLT
Etta James crooned a love ballad that has made its way around the global wedding circuit leaving no dry eye in the place.
When I listen to the lyrics, I can almost feel the awakened gratitude the author must have felt, that the longing for their love was finally fulfilled AT LAST.
Yesterday, we talked about what it must have been like for Adam, whose job it was to name every animal in the Garden. Each animal had their mate, male and female alike, and while he may not have known that he was part of a pair, he felt lonely without it.
Even God recognized that something was not right/good, He recognized that Adam needed a helper suitable for him. He fashioned Eve just for him and Adam knew his longing was fulfilled “At last”
Do you remember when you recognized your spouse as “the one”? How did he or she fit in the slot that brought further clarity and focus to God’s calling and purpose for your life? If it is hard to remember, or you never looked at your Union through the eyes of Adam when he first connected with Eve, then now is a great time to start.
At last
My love has come along My lonely days are over And life is like a song Oh, yeah, yeah
At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I’ve never known (oh, yeah, yeah)
You smiled, you smiled
Oh, and then the spell was cast And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last
- Songwriters: Warren Harry / Gordon Mack
Prayer:
Thank you Lord that both my spouse and I are fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works and not only do our souls know it, but our eyes are able to behold it each day. Thank you for the Gift of Marriage, thank you for the Gift of Friendship, thank you for the Gift of Intimacy. Give us the joy in our Union as we seek to live out your calling for our marriage in this world.
In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
Reflection:
What you are most grateful for grows.
1. Write a list of 10 things that you are grateful for in your partner.
2. Not only present this list to your spouse, but read it to them over a time set aside for you.
3. Be sure to affirm and thank your partner for completing this task.
4. Come back tomorrow for Day 5
