
A Relationship With The Holy Spirt
John 14:16

Why is it that so many people today are living a Spirit-less life?
• Some people think the Holy Spirit is weird.
• Some people aren’t even aware of the Holy Spirit.
“While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There, he found some disciples, and he asked them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?’” Acts 19:1-2
“They answered, ‘No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.’” Acts 19:3
• Some people are simply resisting the Holy Spirit.
“You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!” Acts 7:51
Four Commands Regarding The Holy Spirit:
• “Be filled with the Spirit.”

• “Live by the Spirit.”

• “Do not grieve the Spirit.”

• “Do not quench the Spirit.”
1 Thessalonians 5:19
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you, He will be with you forever.” John 14:16
“Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him.” John 14:17
“For he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:17
“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” John 16:7
1. The Holy Spirit Is A
• The Holy Spirit Will Comfort You.
“He will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.” John 14:16
• The Holy Spirit Will Counsel You.
“But he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you in all truth.” John 16:13
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” Isaiah 30:21
• The Holy Spirit Will Convict You.
“When the Spirit comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” John 16:8
• He speaks.
“Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Revelation 2:7
“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said.” Acts 13:2
• He intercedes.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.” Romans 8:26
• He testifies.
“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father–the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father–he will testify about me.” John 15:26
• He leads.
“The Spirit told Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.’” Acts 8:29
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Romans 8:14
• He commands.
“Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.” Acts 16:6
• He guides.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” John 16:13
• He appoints.
“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.” Acts 20:28
• He can be lied to.
“But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?’” Acts 5:3-4
• He can be grieved.
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30
• He is eternal.
“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God.” Hebrews 9:14
• He is all-powerful.
“The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.’” Luke 1:35
• He is present everywhere.
“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” Psalm 139:7
• He is all-knowing.
“For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.”

• He is the creator.

2. The Holy Spirit’s
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
John 14:16-17
3. The Holy Spirit Is
“The Son of God was raised from the dead, again, by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 1:4
There are many people who are more surrendered to the “power” that is available by God through the Holy Spirit than others are.
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” Romans 8:11
“On one occasion, while Jesus was eating with the disciples, he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father has promised, which you heard me speak about.’” Acts 1:4
“For John, baptize with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:5
The Greek word translated “baptized” is the word “baptize” and means “to immerse.”
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” Acts 1:8
“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea, and in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
The word “power” comes from the Greek word “dunamis,” which is the word we get “dynamite” from.
4 distinct qualities that the power of the Holy Spirit wants to give to all believers:
• Power To Share Christ Boldly
“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but, my message came with the demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but instead on God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 2:4-5
• Power When You Are Weak
“In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.” Romans 8:26
“We don’t know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Romans 8:26
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. For where I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
• Power To Have Hope In A Hopeless World
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
• Power To Experience All The Fullness Of God
“I pray that out of his glorious riches, God may strengthen you with power in your inner being…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” Ephesians 3:16-17
“(That you) may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:18-19
