Day 9 – Sharing the Gospel with Passion and Boldness
Read I Thessalonians 2: 1 – 20
When we have a deep, unconditional love for someone there are no limits to what we will do for him or her. Our actions are the result of pure, sincere love rather than selfish gain. Re-read verses 2: 5 – 8 and notice some of the expressions recorded that characterize Paul’s love.
Most Christ followers know that the Holy Spirit wants us to share the gospel with others but some would readily acknowledge that they aren’t very successful when it comes to sharing their faith. What are some of the obstacles that distract us from witnessing? Fear of rejection, lack of knowledge, lack of desire, lack of contact with non-Christians, or perhaps you don’t feel like it is your responsibility. Satan can use these and many other reasons to keep us from sharing this life-changing message God has entrusted to us.
Is it possible that our fear of rejection really stems from our personal pride? We care more about what people think about us than we do about where they will spend eternity. Day after day, missed opportunity after missed opportunity, we stay silent when their eternal soul is at stake. Perhaps we don’t build relationships with neighbors because we feel we are just too busy. Maybe we are fearful that they will ask us questions or bring up issues that we can’t answer or explain.
Sometimes we share the gospel with impure motives (bringing attention to ourselves rather than Christ). Maybe we are overly judgmental in our approach. The Holy Spirit can best add power to our message when we are encouraging and tender and motivated by love.
Prayer time: Dear Lord, I want to be an effective witness for the gospel that can be used by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the story of Jesus. My friends and family that have not said yes to Jesus are in desperate need of a Savior. Their lives are careening toward judgement day and they are facing an eternity of separation and pain. Give me a love that cares enough to overcome my fears and excuses that keep me from telling them the good news.
Final thought: Take some time to think about how you share the gospel. Are people responding to the gospel message when you share? Are there changes in approach that you could make that would help people respond to you in a better way? Can you confidently share your personal testimony? Do you pray frequently for the three people that God has placed on your heart that need to hear the gospel?
