1.You tend to hold it in…
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 7b says There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: …A time to be silent and a time to speak

2.You tend to explode…
Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. ESV
Prov 26:20 - Fire goes out without wood, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops. NLT
Prov. 13:3 - He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.
Prov 19:11 - Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs. NLT

A better way to empty the jug:
Empty the jug regularly and not in a combative tone
- Couch time…
Empty the jug beyond calendar and information…share feelings and thoughts
- It will start with “what you did today…but it should end with how you felt about that
Apply:
The only way emptying the jug works is if the person on the other end you are emptying it to is doing a good job at listening…
James 1:19 - 19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. NLT
MY OBSERVATION
Listening is a lost art that we have gotten so bad at as a culture
- We care more about our voices being heard than about truly hearing someone else
Do this to be a better listener:
Ask questions
- What are you mad about? Sad?
Be a good listener
- The one listening says nothing unless it is a question for clarification
Ask for ONE MORE THING
- When they have answered every question…ask for ONE more thing
Heb. 12: 1b-2a - let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus
