Dealing With Divorce
Connection Points
March 12, 2023

“For I hate divorce!” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “It is as cruel as putting on a victim’s bloodstained coat,” says the LORD Almighty. “So guard yourself; always remain loyal to your wife.” Malachi 2:16 (NLT)

GOD’S GROUNDS FOR DIVORCE

“You have heard that the law of Moses says, `A man can divorce his wife by merely giving her a letter of divorce.’ But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Matthew 5:31-32 (NLT)

But if the husband or wife who isn’t a Christian insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the Christian husband or wife is not required to stay with them, for God wants His children to live in peace. 1 Corinthians 7:15 (NLT)

Divorce Deceptions

“We know that to those who love God, who are called according to His Plan, everything that happens fits into a pattern for good.” Romans 8:28

“A battered reed He will not break off, and a smoldering wick He will not put out” Matthew 12:20

Steps for HEALing

“Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible.” Romans 12:18

God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before Him. When I got my act together, He gave me a fresh start. Psalms 18:20 (MSG)

God places the lonely in families; He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But for rebels, there is only famine and distress. Psalms 68:6 (NLT)

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18 (NIV)

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

“You intended to harm me but God intended it for good.” Genesis 50:20

“I will restore beauty for ashes.” Isaiah 61:1
