2000 years ago, Jesus was walking on a shoreline. He looked out at some young fishermen and invited them on a journey with three words: “Come, follow me.”
In those words, Jesus was inviting these young men on a journey from being fishermen to become fishers of men. One of those young men was named Peter. He chose to leave his fishing net behind and follow Jesus. The journey was marked by some incredibly high highs, and some very low lows. In the end, Jesus took him from that spot he was at (here) and led him to a spot where he was instrumental in the world-changing message of the Gospel (there). Just as He did with Peter, God wants to take you and me on a journey from here (where we are) to there (where He’s calling us).
Welcome to a devotional journey through the life of that ordinary, unschooled fisherman named Simon Peter who decided to follow Jesus and ended up changing the world. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as well as the book of Acts will serve as our guides on this journey. The way we will study the Scriptures is a little unique and requires you to use your imagination.* As you read through the different stories in Peter’s life, you will be encouraged to place yourself at the scene of the events and look, feel, hear, and maybe even smell and taste what’s going on. After doing this, you will be invited to reflect and respond to some questions in an effort to consider how Peter’s journey from Here to There can speak to your own personal Here to There journey with Jesus.
The Bible Study method we will be using throughout this journey is an adaptation of what is known as the Ignatian Method. To read more on this study, check out the following:
