Use the following questions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.

Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose

• If you were to take a road trip, where would you go? What would you do? Is your focus more on the destination or the journey? Explain.

Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters

• What is Saul’s role at the church in Antioch? (Acts 13:1) Are you surprised to find him here after the events of chapter 9? How might this role prepare him for the journey ahead?
• How does worship, prayer and fasting put you in a position to be guided by God? Are you in a good position to be guided by him right now? Why or why not?
• Who could you encourage to join you on a short fast this week (skip lunch one day, or longer)? When will you?
• Find a map of Paul’s first missionary journey (see the back of many Bibles). How far do they travel? Assuming they can cover 10-15 miles per day, how long are they on the road? What challenges might they face?
• Saul gets the ear of a high-ranking official and is able to share Jesus. Do you think he expected such quick success? Do you expect success in evangelism? Why?
• Why do you think Elymas tried to stop the spread of the gospel (Acts 13:6-12)? Why does the Holy Spirit (via Paul) rebuke him so strongly?
• What tactics does Satan use to slow the spread of the good news? How can you avoid being a gospel roadblock (actively or passively)?

Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God

• Pray and fast this week. Focus on the spread of the gospel in your neighborhood and town. Let the hunger pangs prompt you to pray even more!
