A Gift Fit For a King
Week 2
Part of The Arrival—Countdown to Christmas 2022
December 4, 2022

We believe that God has always wanted four things for your life.
1. Know God
2. Find Community
3. Discover your Purpose
4. Make a Difference

1After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, 2asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” 3When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. —Matthew 2:1-3ESV

9After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was. 10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with great delight. 11On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew to their country by another route. —Matthew 2:9-12ESV

  1. His worth was their reason.

And they sang in a mighty chorus: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered— to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” —Revelation 5:12NLT

  2. They were filled with joy to give to Jesus.

2In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. —2 Corinthians 8:2-3NIV

  3. They understood prosperity’s purpose.

Remember the LORD your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath. —Deuteronomy 8:18NLT

  4. Worship was their motivation and end result.

God doesn’t ask something from you that He first didn’t give to you.
