Full House

Luke 11:14
Now he was casting out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the people marveled.

What Happens With The Things That Fill Our Lives?
We tend to become like that which occupies us or fills us.

Luke 11:15-19
But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the prince of demons,” while others, to test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven.

But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls. And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.

Luke 11:20-22
“But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom has come upon you. When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; but when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoil.”

Luke 11:23
“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. “

Luke 11:24-26
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.”

To Defeat The Demonic, We Need …

  • More than “rules” and “order.”

  • To be filled with His presence.

Luke 11:13
“… how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Jesus hasn’t come just to cleanse the house, but to make it possible for the house to be occupied by the Holy Spirit.

1 John 4:4
… the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

  • To be preoccupied with His purposes.

Luke 11:27-28
As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

A Few Thoughts About Demonic Possession/Oppression

I believe we must avoid two extremes.

  • One is the idea that demons are the source of everything that goes wrong.

  • The other is the idea that demons don’t exist at all.

I prefer the term “demonic oppression.”

I believe it’s possible to be a believer, bought with the blood of Christ, and still be susceptible to demonic oppression and influence.

Ephesians 4:26-27
Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Corinthians 10:19-22
Do I mean then that the food sacrificed to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?

2 Corinthians 2:10-11
I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

Takeaways When It Comes To The Subject Of The Demonic

  • Be aware, not afraid.

1 John 3:8b
The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

Romans 8:38-39
… neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons … . will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Realize that most oppression is done through deception.

Colossians 2:15
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
