John 14:1-11

14:2-4 | Earlier, Jesus had called the earthly temple “My Father’s House” (2:17); now He was going to His Father’s house in heaven, the site of the eternal, heavenly temple.

14:6 | Jesus makes clear the only way to heaven to God the Father is through faith in Him.

14:7-12 | Jesus’ claim was bold. Only someone who really is God could utter such words (1:18), knowing that His works would reinforce His oneness with the Father.

14:8-9 | Scripture gives at least five reasons why Jesus became a man: (1) to satisfy the OT prophescies (Matt. 1:22-23; Luke 24:44); (2) to show us the Father (14:8-9); (3) to save people from their sin (Luke 19:10); (4) to sympathize with human weakness (Heb. 4:15-16); (5) to secure the hope of heaven for His own (Col. 1:27).
