WE VALUE SERVICE
October 30, 2022
Pastor Brian
“We have been saved to serve like Jesus. Therefore, our service is committed, flexible, selfless, and humble.”
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
(Ephesians 2:8–10, NIV84)
WE WERE MADE FOR MINISTRY
1. WE MINISTER TO 3 DIMENSIONS.
• People’s
“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me…And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” (Matthew 25:35–36, NLT) (Matthew 25:40, NLT)
• People’s
“…Encourage those who are timid. [Render assistance] to those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14, NLT)
• People’s
“Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18, CSB)
2. WE MINISTER IN 3 DIRECTIONS.
• To
“But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles…You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven…” (Matthew 5:39–45, NLT)
Give people what they need, not what they deserve.
• To the
“While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, to do the work to which I have called them.”” (Acts 13:2, GNB)
• To
“For God is not [unjust] to forget or overlook your labor and the love which you have shown for His name’s sake in ministering to the needs of the saints, as you still do.” (Hebrews 6:10, AMP)
3. WE MINISTER IN 3 DESIGNATIONS.
•
“If you know someone who doesn’t have any clothes or food, you shouldn’t just say, “I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat.” What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help?” (James 2:15–16, CEV)
•
“God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9, NLT)
• SHAPE-BASED roles.
“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. There are different ways of serving, but the same Lord is served. There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to all for their particular service. The Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all.” (1 Corinthians 12:4–7, GNB)
