Letting Go of Loss

Loss

“I cry out, “My splendor is gone! Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!” The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”” Lamentations 3:18-24 NLT

God wants you to move on from loss.

Four Truths About Loss

1.Loss happens to us all and when it does, we are tempted to blame God.

We experience loss because our world is broken.

Loss feels wrong because we were made for eternity.

“He has planted eternity in the human heart…” Ecclesiastes 3:11

2.Loss can silence our dreams and leave us feeling hopeless.

“Just as one cannot live without dreams, one cannot live without hope. If dreams reflect

the past, hope summons the future.” Elie Wiesel

When what we have is lost, our will to trust is broken, limiting our ability to be hopeful.

“for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land?” Psalm 137:3-4 NIV

3.Loss requires you to press pause on your life, but you must decide for how long.

If we fail to pause then we will fail to process, but if we stay on pause, we fail to move forward.

“But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:26 NLT

“…A person out in the field must not return home. Remember what happened to Lot’s wife!” Luke 17:31-32 TNL

4.We can still have hope after loss when we put our hope in God

Hope in what He has done – Hope in what He has promised – Hope in who He is

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.” Psalms 27:13 NKJV
