SALVATION BY GRACE

  • Grace means that God does something for us that we couldn’t do and don’t deserve.
  • God’s saving grace is in our lives through .

1. Justification

  • 1) Man is condemned and guilty before God (Rom. 3:19)

1] We are condemned because of what we are -

    . (Rom. 3:10; Ps. 51:5)

2] We are condemned because of what we’ve done and do and will do -

    . (Rom. 3:23; Rom. 3:19; Eccl. 7:20)

3] We are condemned because of what we have not done -

    . (John 3:18)

    2) Jesus is the cure (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5; John 3:16-18)

    • The cure for man’s dilemma is found in the person and ministry of Jesus Christ. He is the only cure for the sin problem and its penalty.
    • Only Jesus can deliver (justify) you.

    3) We must co-operate with God. (John 6:44; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7)

THE PROCESS:

  • 1) We are of our sins by the Spirit.

    2) We are convinced, by the Spirit, through the utilization of the Word of God - which is the sword of the Spirit - that we cannot save ourselves.

    3) We are , by the Spirit, to come to Christ.

    4) We are converted, by the Spirit, when we accept Christ as our personal Savior.

  • Man’s part involves

    and .

  • Justification is a gift from God when we trust in Christ.

2. Sanctification

  • Sanctification deals with God’s work us and us after we become believers in Christ.
  • He not only tells us what to do; He equips us with the ability through the ministry of the Holy Spirit to do it. (Eph. 2:10; Phil. 1:6; Phil. 2:12-16)

  • Sanctification is the gracious act of God whereby He delivers the believer from the

of sin and to Christ’s righteousness. This typically takes place as a part of Spiritual Growth.

  • Sanctification as a part of spiritual growth is directly linked with the Word of God and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. (John 17:17; 1 Peter 2:2; Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18)

Justification

  • 1) Occurs instantly at the moment of salvation changing our standing before God.

    2) Removes the of sin.

    3) Removes the guilt of sin.

    4) us righteous.

Sanctification

  • 1) Occurs gradually throughout the life of the believer changing our condition here.

    2) Removes the power of sin.

    3) Removes the of sin.

    4) Makes us righteous.

3. Glorification

  • Glorification is the ultimate and absolute physical, mental, and spiritual, perfection and into the image of Christ of all believers. (Rom. 8:22-23; 1 Cor. 15:41, 44, 51-55; 2 Cor. 4:14-18; 5:1-4; Jude 1:24-25)
  • Glorification is in essence the completion of our salvation. At the resurrection (Christ’s return, rapture, etc.), we will receive a glorified body and be delivered from the very presence of sin. (1 John 3:2; 1 Cor. 15:51-57)

  • Glorification is the logical and necessary final side of the great salvation triangle, completing justification and sanctification.

    1) Justification saved us from the of sin at the moment of salvation.

    2) Sanctification primarily deals with saving us from the of sin throughout life.

    3) Glorification saves us from the of sin at the Rapture or First Resurrection.

Application: Knowing what I know, now what? Believing what I believe, what do I do?

  • 1) Indentify with the verdict

    • When you put your faith in Christ as Savior, God announced a verdict – INNOCENT.
    • Let the verdict your identity.

    2) Seek to grow

    • Spiritual maturity is the key to living out sanctification.

    • The purpose of sanctification is twofold.
      1] To be

-like (Rom. 8:29). This is a general purpose and applies to all Christians.
2] To be (i.e. who God called you to be). There is also an individual purpose for our lives that God desires we fulfill.

    3) Hope in the greater future

    • Our hope is in a greater future. Because Jesus Christ was raised from the grave, we too will be raised from the grave.
