Life Group Questions – March 19th & 20th, 2022

This weekend Pastor Al preached from Joshua 6 on three practices which will let God tear walls down in our lives.

Pastor Al talked about how when we apply God’s promise of victory over sin then we can withstand temptations by His strength.
1. When you face trials or temptations do you try to fight them on your own or do you fight according to the victory we have in Christ? How does trusting in the victory of Christ change how we fight our battles?

a. How can we discern between absolute promises of God, such as assurance of salvation, and things which the Bible says are subsequent of good actions, such as Proverbs 3 speaking about wisdom leading to riches and longevity? Why is it so important for both our relationship with God, and the doctrine on which it is founded, that we understand these differences?

Pastor Al talked about how the City of Jericho was easy to overlook despite its wickedness upon this Earth and how this can be similar to unrepentant sin.
2. What happens in our lives when we ignore our sin? Is it difficult to bring certain sins before the Lord? Are there sins that you often brush off?
a. What is the outcome of bringing our sin to the Lord? How often should we do this? What does this do for our relationship with the Lord?

Pastor Al talked about how we must apply patience before we see our walls fall down.

  1. When we encounter trials, what is the most common response we have to them? Do you find yourself grumbling and complaining often? Is patience a virtue that is evident in your life? Why or why not?

a. Many trials or tests of faith that we face take time and require patience, how can we wait upon the Lord actively? (Do you seek the lessons/growth He has prepared for you? Do you praise Him in these things?)

Pastor Al talked about how praise is fundamental to tearing down the walls in our lives.

  1. When in life is it hardest for us to give God praise? What are things we can praise Him for right now? What are things that we can always praise Him for, no matter the situation?
    a. What does your life look like without praise in it? How is praise fundamental to our growth, relationship with God, and condition of our hearts?

Pastor Al’s message points out that all of these practices need application to be affective.

  1. What are some things we can do to practice praise, patience, and trust in God’s promises in every day? How can consistent practice of these help us when obstacles do come along?
