Psalms 38:1-22

38:3-8 | While the psalmist laments over his sufferings, he acknowledges that he suffers because of his own sin and foolishness, not because of circumstances beyond his control.

38:13-17 | The psalmist depicts himself as one who has no way to help himself – he is like a man who is both deaf and mute. This dire situation, resulting from his own sin, led him to find hope in the Lord. The spiritually dead cannot save themselves, but God has acted to save them (Eph. 2:1-5).
