1. Following Jesus is a

invitation

“The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” —John 1:43

“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. —John 1:46

2. Following Jesus

me

“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).” —John 1:40-42

How does God change me?
The most effective way for positive change to happen in your life is by engaging with God’s Word on a regular basis.

Why is the Bible so powerful? It is a

word.

“In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God and the Word was God.” —John 1:1

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” —John 1:14

Hanging out with the

has the same effect as hanging out with Jesus.

3. Following Jesus is a

of next steps

“The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see. So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him.” —John 1:35-39

“The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.” —John 1:43-46

Jesus kept turning up the heat by defining what it means to follow him. He said you are his disciple if you:

Obey his word (John 8:31)

Love each other (John 13:35)

Bear much fruit (John 15:8)
