John 11:38-44a (NIV)
Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said.
“But Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”
Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone.
Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe you sent me.”
When he said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.
John 11:44b (NIV)
Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
John 11:45 (NIV)
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.
John 11:4 (NIV)
“… This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”
What Does Jesus Say About Lazarus That Speaks To Us Today?
- “Lazarus, come out!” (John 11:43)
- “(Your name), come out!”
- “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:44)
Colossians 3:1, 8-12 (NIV)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ … (vs.8) rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Galatians 3:26-27 (NIV)
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
