Great Is Thy Faithfulness

GOD is faithful.
Look in the REAR VIEW MIRROR.
Looking

we can see the FAITHFULNESS of God.
We can also look and EXPECT the FAITHFULNESS of God.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with Thee, Thou changest not Thy compassions they fail not, as Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be. Great is Thy faithfulness, great is Thy faithfulness. Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand has provided, Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me. —Great Is Thy Faithfulness

[Deuteronomy 7:6-9] For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession. The Lord did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than the other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath He swore to your forefathers that He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.

He is the faithful God.
Showing faithfulness to a thousand generations.
These verses speak of His FAITHFULNESS.

HIS,

Faithfulness to His treasured possession v6 (Treasured Possession)
Faithfulness to the least v7 (Fewest of all peoples)
Faithfulness to those in bondage v8 (He redeemed you from slavery)
Faithfulness to all generations v9 (He is the only God. He is the faithful God)

Faithful to His treasured possession…

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God.
The Lord your God has chosen you out of all of the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession.

The word treasured possession is peculiar possession in the Hebrew text.
Throughout all generations, God has a peculiar people.
This “peculiar possession” Moses is talking about in this verse was the people of Israel. They were peculiar because God called them out of the world and caused His presence to dwell with them.

[1 Peter 2:9] But you are a chosen generation, a royal priest hood, a holy nation, a peculiar people that proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

His light is His glory AND His glory is the sum of His attributes.

When you stand in the light/glory of God you actually believe that God is the Omni-God
Omnipresent
Omniscient
Omnipotent

You’re also peculiar because you praise the Lord!

He is faithful to the least

Vs 6 For the Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.

Moses says the Lord picked the fewest of all peoples.
That word means VERY SMALL or the VERY LEAST.

1 Corinthians 1:27 But God chose the foolish things of this world to shame the wise.

1 Corinthians 2: 3-5 I came to you in weakness and fear and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on man’s wisdom, but on God’s power.

In Christ, there will always be enough.

He is faithful to those caught in bondage.

**Vs. 8 **But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath He swore to your forefathers that brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery/bondage from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Redeemed from the land of slavery/bondage

Redeemed: regain possession of something in exchange for a payment.

In the Old Testament the Lord led them out of Egypt and to the promised land.
He did not rid the land of it’s inhabitants.

Jesus exchanged bondage for freedom. He redeemed us. We are free.
But we still have inhabitants in the land, in our life.

Galatians 6:1 it is for freedom that Christ set has us free. Stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery (bondage).

6:7 you were running a good race, who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?

Ephesians 4:31 and 5:3, Rid yourselves of bitterness, rage, and anger…sexual immorality, any kink of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

In Romans 7 Paul calls it “Sin lining in me.”

How?

James 4:7 Submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
1 John 3:8 The reason the Son of God was manifest (appeared) was to destroy the works of the evil one (KJV).

He is faithful. Battle with His Name and battle with His Word

He is faithful to all generations.

Vs. 9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.

He is faithful to all generations.
Let’s let scripture speak for itself…

Psalm 119:90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations

1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son

1 Timothy 2:13 If we are faithless, He remains faithfulness, for He cannot deny Himself

1 Thessalonians 3:3 The Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleans us from all unrighteousness.

Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
