Sermon Title: Taking Care of Each Other
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 16:1-14
Church Calendar Season: Pentecost

Respond to Worship Questions:

Today there are many who are on the defense—against those who think differently, look different, live different, etc. The first four exhortations suit well a defensive posture.

How would these defensive postures be changed by “doing everything in love”?

To those different from us, rather than just saying we love, how do we demonstrate that we love?

Kid’s Conversation Starters:

Read: “On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come. And when I arrive, I will send those whom you accredit by letter to carry your gift to Jerusalem.” 1 Corinthians 16:2-3

How does your family contribute Tithes and Offerings to the Lord’s work? Who carries your offering to church to be given?

Read: “I will visit you after passing through Macedonia, for I intend to pass through Macedonia, and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may help me on my journey, wherever I go.” 1 Corinthians 16:5,6

Think Back … Who has visited you recently? How do you welcome visitors? How do you care for guests in your home?

Who have you visited? How were you welcomed? How were you cared for?

Read: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13,14

Make a plan … How does your family work together as you demonstrate gift giving and hospitality? To each other? To those in your community? Pick one characteristic that will be a focus this week.

Prayer for the Week

All-powerful God,
your only Son came to earth in the form of a slave
and now rules in glory.
As he reigns as King in our hearts,
grant that the people of earth,
now divided and enslaved by sin,
may be freed from sin and brought together
under the gentle and loving rule of Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
